About us

The BIS Student ChapterIIT Kanpur operates with the vision of promoting awareness and understanding of standardization, quality assurance, safety, and industrial best practices among students. Established in alignment with the BIS initiative for MoU partner institutions, the chapter aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real world industrial standards by creating opportunities for technical engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and exposure to quality ecosystems. Through workshops, competitions, expert talks, case studies, and research oriented activities, the chapter strives to cultivate a culture of standards driven innovation and responsible engineering.

The BIS Student Chapter serves as a platform for students across various disciplines to explore the role of standards in emerging technologies, manufacturing, sustainability, safety, and public welfare. By encouraging participation in BIS initiatives such as pre-standardization studies, exposure visits, quizzes, and internships, the chapter seeks to develop technically aware and industry-ready students who understand the importance of compliance, reliability, and quality in technological advancement. With guidance from faculty mentors and support from BIS, the chapter aspires to contribute meaningfully towards India’s quality infrastructure and standardization ecosystem.
